Matteo Renzi's resignation

Nearly three years after he became Italy’s youngest ever prime minister, Matteo Renzi officially stepped down on Wednesday, three days after his stinging defeat in a referendum, formally ending Italy’s 63rd government in 70 years.  This vote was a referendum on whether or not Italy should amend its 1948 constitution.

WOMEN'S RIGHT TO VOTE.

Women's right to vote should have been accepted much earlier. The first time that women could vote without any restriction was in New Zealand in 1893, because of Kate Sheppard´s struggle.

The Schengen “zone” is in danger

Currently, Europe is facing lots of problems and the most discussed is the Schengen agreement, which in 1990 introduced free movements of people in Europe without border checkings among its member states and allowed foreign visitors to travel throughout the area using  visa, since 1995.  But the future of the passport free-zone is now under threat. The first Sicilian President

Sergio Mattarella was born  on the 23rd  July 1941. He  is an Italian politician, lawyer and judge and the current President of Italy since his election on the 31st January 2015.
 He was a Member of the Italian Parliament from 1983 to 2008, serving as Minister of Education from 1989 to 1990 and as Minister of Defence from 1999 to 2001. In 2011, he became an elected judge of the Constitutional Court.  Mattarella is the 13th President of the Italian Republic and the first Sicilian.

USA Cuba Embargo

After more than 50 years, USA and Cuba have finally kicked their negotiations off. USA has since 1962 conducted an embargo that, among other things, prevented American citizens from travelling to Cuba. But we might just see the end of a 50-years old national conflict.

DONALD TUSK - EU'S NEW CHAIRMAN

           Donald Tusk, the Poland’s Prime minister, was elected as President of the European Council for the period from 1 December 2014 until 31 May 2017. He replaced Herman Van Rumpuya from Belgium. Tusk is the first Polish politician who got so meaningful position in the European Union. On the international stage, he has gained recognition for leading Poland through the Continent's financial crisis. The country was the only EU member to avoid falling into recession in 2009 amid the global financial crisis.

TWO VISIONS OF CORRUPTION

Corruption is the main problem in Spain today, more than crisis, unemployment or Catalonia. It has to do with all our problems and it worsens them. Some of those people who are trying to explain it would better keep silent. Some other times, they simply argue it’s other people's fault. An extreme observer would confirm that corruption is the main issue in Spanish politics just by having a look at the front pages in journals and by listening to the news programmes in any of our Spanish radio or television broadcasting companies.

9N: CATALONIAN INDEPENDENCE

 Catalonia is an autonomous community located in the north-east of Spain. 
                                               
On September 9th, 20014, the Catalonian population was asked about the independence of Catalonia.
This enquiry had much in common with the Scottish independence referendum, which was held on 18th September 2014, and where NO to independence won.

About 400 immigrants have tried to enter the autonomous Spanish city of Melilla in an illegal way. They were trying to climb and jump the frontier fence from several different spots simultaneously and, at the same time, they were trying to avoid the security measures displayed by the Moroccan Auxiliary Forces and the Civil Guard on both sides of the frontier, which was reinforced by a helicopter from the army. The last try of fence jumping was on 31st October, when 300 immigrants tried to enter Melilla illegally but none achieved.
