Nearly three years after he became Italy’s youngest ever prime minister,
Matteo Renzi officially stepped down on Wednesday, three days after his
stinging defeat in a referendum, formally ending Italy’s 63rd government
in 70 years. This vote was a referendum
on whether or not Italy should amend its 1948 constitution.
