Where does the beauty of a city reside? In its history? In its people? These are two valid answers but where you can perceive its beauty the most is in its architecture, and the city of Budapest dominates this matter.

A TRIP THAT CHANGED MY MIND!

A few weeks ago, the long-awaited trip to Palermo (Sicily) was eventually carried out; we had been waiting for two really long years. The trip lasted seven days in total. 

                 
During the first five days, we stayed in Palermo (in the north of the island) and, for the last two days of our visit, we moved to Catania, which lies on a broad plain at the bottom of Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe and is located in the south-east of the island.

She is 1,75 meters tall. She has got blue eyes and brown hair. She was born on 4th June, 1975. She raises six children: three biological and three adopted.

'What’s new on the news?” Erasmus + project at IES de Catabois

     A few months ago, a young woman from Ferrol, Aroa Fandiño Serrano, contacted me via e-mail. In her mail, she explained that she is specializing in management of European projects and that, after reading about our Erasmus + KA2 project in a newspaper, she was immediately attracted to it. She expressed her interest in arranging an interview with the person in charge of the project at school in order to get information about its implementation and management, the goals we are achieving, the materials produced and the way both the students and the schools involved in the project are living it, what they are learning and so on... She added that she would like to include our project in her blog europeaconvencida.wordpress.com where she deals with topics which try to get Ferrol closer to Europe by relating different European projects with the town, as for example, the Urban Plan.

     Below is the post that she published in her blog talking about our project, after an interview with Maca Torres, coordinator of the project at IES de Catabois.

AN INTERESTING SURPRISING TRIPSome students belonging to 4th year ESO at IES Catabois travelled to Copenhagen, in Denmark, and to yGothenburg and Kungsbacka, in Sweden, last October in order to take part in the learning, teaching and training activities organised in Kungsbacka as part of the Erasmus + project What's New on the News?
They visited many places and saw a lot of important buildings and monuments. In Denmark, they saw coloured houses, some streets with channels, boats, a tower called Rundetaarn and a lot of people riding bikes.
The coloured houses were amazing because all of them had a different colour.

 

Visit in Spanish family

     We came to Spain for our project meeting on the 21st of March 2015. We, Daria and Marysia, could stay in a Spanish family, because Noa, an ex-student of IES de Catabois school invited us to her house. She gave us her room and we could sleep in her double bed. It was exciting experience for us.

“Je suis Charlie”: the freedom of the press

On the morning of 7 January 2015, at about 11:30 , two Islamist terrorists armed with assault rifles and other weapons forced their way into the offices of the French satirical weekly newspaper “Charlie Hebdo” in Paris. They killed 11 people and injured 11 others, and shouted "Allahu Akbar”" (Arabic for "God is [the] greatest") during their attack.

Cover of the first edition (1863) of The Disasters of War

In 1808 the Spanish rose up against the Napoleonic troops stationed in Spain because of the Fontainebleau Treaty. That’s the way the so called Spanish War of Independence, as it would later be named in History, started. It would keep the Peninsula bleeding for  six years  (till 1814). The students in 4th year (curricular diversification) have studied this terrible episode of our past, terrifying ourselves before the hard images that the amazing painter Francisco de Goya captured in his series of etchings ‘The Disasters of War’ or  in two capital oil paintings in the history of art such as The Second of May 1808: The Charge of the Mamelukes or The Third of May 1808.
