The Jewish heritage in Budapest:

The Jewish district of Budapest is exciting and tragic too. It has got the second biggest synagogue in the world but, as well, it was a guetto where the Nazis forced the Jews to live, in times of the Second World War and the Holocaust. The Jewish district is on the bank of the east bank of the Danube river.

Wawel Castle, the heart of Cracow.

Wawel Royal Castle is a Gothic castle located in Krakow, Poland. Built at the behest of Casimiro III the Great, it consists of several structures located around a central patio. It was rebuilt by Jogaila and Eduviges I in the 14th century.

In Poland there is a museum called Muzeum Historyczne Miasta Krakowa. There are several different exhibitions. During the World War 2, Gestapo's headquarters was located in Krakow, at Pomorska street. Today it is a place for national memories and also the most important point in the exhibition we went to:  The People of Krakow In Times of Terror 1939-1945-1956. This exhibition told us about the interesting, but also the very terrible history of the city. Where the Polish people fought for freedom and justice.

AN UNEXPECTED SHOW.

On our recent trip to Bierun, in Poland, we went on a trip to the Beskidy mountains, quite close to Bierun. We visited Lesny Park, a nice place in the middle of the forest where you can walk amongst animals like fallow deers or some kind of goats and you can even breed them. As well you see some other types of animals in fenced spaces while you go for a walk in the park.

Bieruń is in Silesia, which is quite dissimilar to the rest of Poland. In Silesia people celebrate birthday but in the rest of Poland name day, but they are Gorole, we are Hanysy.
And we’ve got the coal –our blessing and course.

New sports disciplines

       Each of our project international meetings involves games and sports competitions. Are you aware that though, there is a wide range of sports disciplines, the number is still increasing? For example, in the Olympic Games in Tokyo (2020) five new categories are going to be introduced:
baseball (very popular in Japan), karate (with Japanese origins), skateboarding, climbing and surfing.

Polish and Italian calendar

     My stay in Sicily, during the project, was an excellent opportunity to get interested in Italian traditions. I’ve discovered that there are many holidays in Italy which are celebrated in similar way as in Poland. However, I’ve found also some differences. I’d like to present you my personal overview of calendar and some holidays which are present in both cultures.

A mysterious animal

On the third day of our trip to Sicily we went to a very nice beach in Mondello. We put on our swimming costumes and started taking pictures. Suddenly, we saw a strange animal lying on the sand. It was quite small, just a few centimeters long, transparent with some blue elements. We didn’t know what it was. Our teacher warned us: “You’d better not touch this animal, please, be careful”, but it was too late. We had already touched it!

     Music – has been crucial to people for thousands of years. It has accompanied human civilization since the beginning, and both active creation of the music and listening to it, have been equally
important.
    We may perceive music in various ways, it may awake a range of emotions and associations, but we are all not unresponsive to music.

I love sport especially swimming and skiing, so I was glad when I heard that international sports activities would be among main issues of the project. I took part in some of them during the mobility in Bieruń. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much time for sport due to a variety of project tasks. We have managed to use only the sports hall. Yet our town has got a wide range of places where you can do sport.

A dream detector

“Did you have a dream detector?” children asked, hugging the volunteers. The volunteers brought them lots of boxes just before Christmas. Children are founding the toys they have been dreaming about.

This autumn Elof Lindälvs Gymnasiet, in Kungsbacka hosted the partner schools from Spain, Poland, Turkey, Romania and Italy. 

Students and teachers visited the school from Monday 11^th to Friday 16^th October and took part in a number of academic and cultural activities. The aim of the visit to Sweden was give the students a closer look into the world of news and encourage them to reflect on how newspapers create their front page. After an eventful week together the students interacted during the final workshop and produced their very own front page based on the events they themselves had participated in.

Squares of Madrid and Cracow

     During the first project meeting in Spain our return journey led us to Madrid, where we had to spend a day waiting for the plane. We didn’t have much time to visit the Old Town in a very detailed way. On the other hand, we didn’t want just to walk and look around. For this reason, before going to Spain we asked some people for advice what is worth seeing. One of the most interesting ideas was given to us by Maca. She suggested us to pay attention to the main squares of Madrid and compare them with the main squares in Cracow.

Wieliczka Salt Mine (Poland): Deep into planet Earth.

During our recent visit to Poland in May 2015, we went on an incredible trip under the Earth, where we even  had lunch! Can you believe it?

   


There's such a place and it's called Wieliczka. Inscribed in the UNESCO world Heritage Sites List since its very beginning in 1978, together with other 11 places in the world, it's one of the oldest companies (not to say the oldest one) still running in Europe today. Its visit is like a quick look onto the history of this beautiful friendly country.
The article explains the mine from the point of view of a group of students, 15-16 year olds, who visited it as part of an Erasmus + KA2 project.

Our Trip to Poland

It was a fantastic journey!  This project, Erasmus +, has helped us to meet people from other countries and improve our English level. 

                             Outside the school.
 
We left from our school on Friday 22nd at 7.30 pm. We arrived at Santiago’s airport at 8.30 pm. We took the plane after doing the control and we got to Madrid at 11 pm. We slept at Viky’s hostel, but we only slept more or less half an hour.

Weronika Urbanik-Pek: A Galician speaker.

Strange as it may sound, it's a true fact. This woman, born in the Lesser Poland voivodeship, can speak a really good Galician to our surprise.

COME BACK OF LOGICAL GAMES

 The logic and spatial games are coming back into fashion. More and more young people are moving away from the computer and play chess. At our school corridor you can see some students solving Rubik's cube.

This game was constructed over 40 years ago. It is noteworthy, as there are not many toys that last longer than a generation. Rubik, a Hungarian architect, after designing the cube realized that he couldn’t actually solve the puzzle. The cube, made up of nine colour squares on each side, can be rearranged in 43 000 000 000 000 000 000 different ways. After a month Rubik finally figured it out.

DONALD TUSK - EU'S NEW CHAIRMAN

           Donald Tusk, the Poland’s Prime minister, was elected as President of the European Council for the period from 1 December 2014 until 31 May 2017. He replaced Herman Van Rumpuya from Belgium. Tusk is the first Polish politician who got so meaningful position in the European Union. On the international stage, he has gained recognition for leading Poland through the Continent's financial crisis. The country was the only EU member to avoid falling into recession in 2009 amid the global financial crisis.
