THE IMPRESSIVE GALICIA

Being on a “news haunting”, Spain seemed to be the perfect destination. And so it was. Galicia (North-West region of Spain) welcomed us with open arms and delighted our hearts with its wonderful culture and various monuments full of history.

The monument that impressed me the most was the “Torre de Hercules”: an impressive building which is 55 meters high and 20 centuries old. The legend says that the legendary Greek Hercules fought a battle for 3 days and 3 nights and then he buried his opponent's head. It is said that in that exact place was built the tower. The view of the surroundings, especially of the spectacular ocean, is wonderful.
Another impressive monument was the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, which was built on the grave of St. James the Great (St. Santiago).  The legend of this place says that after Santiago's death, his body was lost at sea during a storm, later being found on the shore, covered with shells. That’s why the pilgrims’ symbol is a shell.
In a nutshell, Galicia is great and it is worth being visited. During my stay there, I learnt so many things about this region, about its landmarks, about its culture. But, the most important thing, I met some new people, European citizens, wonderful people who made me feel like home: I was a European amongst Europeans!
