Catalonia is an autonomous community located in the north-east of Spain.

On September 9th, 20014, the Catalonian population was asked about the independence of Catalonia.
This enquiry had much in common with the Scottish independence referendum, which was held on 18th September 2014, and where NO to independence won.
The Catalonian independence movement bases its thesis on the principle that the Catalonian people are a sovereign nation, referring basically to the interpretation of their history, culture, own language and Catalonian civil law. It also affirms that Catalonia won’t reach its cultural, social or economical plenitude while it forms part of Spain.
The results of the enquiry reveal that 81% of the population, amongst more than 2,3 million votes, supports the YES to independence.
Those who supported the YES-NO option (it means that Catalonia would be a nation but it wouldn’t be independent), was supported by 10,07% while the supporters of the NO were about 4,45%.
Priorat, in Tarragona, was the region with the largest participation in Catalonia; it was also the one who got the most YES votes.
