DEEP IN TRANSYLVANIA

By Rafael Morna, IXth A grade; Coordinating teacher: Tamara Motorga; School: Samuil Vulcan National College

Bran Castle was initially built in 1212 to serve as a fortress. Today, tourists from all over the world come to visit the famous castle, which is known as being Dracula’s home, the first vampire ever.
Considering that Vlad Ţepeş was compared to Dracula because of his authoritative reign and the “blood thirst”, it was supposed that he lived in the Bran Castle, although he never did. Bram Stoker chose him to be the main character in his novel, the book being published in 1897.

The castle is placed on a cliff at a distance of less than 18 miles from Braşov, and at the moment,  it serves as a museum. It houses a whole collection of weapons, armors and furniture.
After the legend of Dracula became known all over the world, over 700 movies have been made, having Dracula, or at least vampires, as the subject of the movies. Unfortunately, lots of writers and movie producers changed the traditional story of Dracula, making it a XXI century story, not a XIII century story one.
