The Romanians
have started to discover new things since the XXth century. In April 1922, Nicolae Constantin Păulescu, scientist, doctor
and physiologist, teacher at the Medical School from Bucharest, revolutionized the studies of medicine.
He
has contributed to the discovery
of an antidiabetic hormone released by the pancreas, later named insulin. 'Pancreine' was partially
purified by Păulescu, then he injected its extract into the jugular vein of
diabetic dogs, and he observed that their pathological blood sugar temporarily
returned to normal.
Despite his undeniable contributions
in the field of human metabolism, Nicolae Păulescu is generally completely
ignored by the Medical School and the western scientific historiography.
Passing over the years, we arrive to another
discovery of an IT team from Cluj-Napoca who has presented us the
first application from Romania which offers people access to a medical advice via a smartphone.
This
application is reliable because doctor-patient conversations can be seen
only by them. The application was launched under the name of ''First Doctor"
on January 6, 2015, although the idea came to them in June 2014. This project is
definitely one which is and will be used by many people, starting with
those having disabilities, especially those unable to walk; for these persons
the method suggested by the IT team to communicate with the doctor is more practical. It can also be
used by people with minor health problems, who prefer the advantage of using a smartphone to contact their
doctor.
These
are just a few examples of romanian discoveries that have had an impact on the
world, discoveries
that we, the Romanians, are proud of.
