Six shootings in Malmö since New Years

By Alexander Isberg

A heavy start of the New Year, the city of Malmö has suffered from a series of shootings and three people have already lost their lives. The police have put out extra staff around the vulnerable areas Fosie and Rosengård.

The first murder of the year took place already on Tuesday 2 January when a man who was 20 years old got shot on Docentgatan in Malmö, the third largest city in Sweden. He passed away a couple of hours later in the hospital.

The day after, on 3 January a young woman was seriously injured after being shot near a falafel stand. The woman was taken by ambulance to the hospital where she had surgery. Her condition was serious but stable.

Ten days later, 16-year-old Ahmed Obaid was shot dead with several shots when he got off the bus on his way home from sport practice. This was the second murder since New Year’s Eve.
Many of those living in the vulnerable areas are in shock after the shootings and feel very unsafe. They are afraid of when the next shooting will take place. The police are working daily to prevent that crimes like this happen.
