Swedish teenage-boy shot to his death

By Karin Nyqvist

Last week, Ahmed Obaid, a Swedish 16-year old boy got shot to death at the bus stop.

It was late afternoon Thursday 14 January in Rosengård, Malmö, Sweden when Ahmed was waiting for the bus home from practice and got shot several times. According to a Swedish newspaper in Malmö, Sydsvenskan, the murderer first shot him in the leg and his upper body. Witnesses said the murderer left the location immediately after the incident, but soon afterwards returned to shoot Ahmed in his head. Ahmed was stated dead less than an hour after the incident and the cause were his injuries.

Ahmed Obaid was just a normal teenage boy. He went to high school and he was, according to his teachers and relatives, a very committed boy with clear future plans. He had his mind set on someday being able to work as a doctor. Police has no suspect and no one is arrested for the murder yet, but the investigation is still going on. There are no known threats against Ahmed and neither the police nor his relatives can find any reasons behind the murder. He didn’t belong to any gangs and was earlier unknown by the police. Police have theories that the murder shot the wrong person, but nothing is assured.

Days after Ahmed’s death people gathered to bless him and his family to show how much they care.
Unfortunately, Malmö, and especially territories like Rosengård, are quite troubled. Since year-end and start, there have been several shootings and some of the victims have been facing the same fate as Ahmed.
Now, weeks after the terrible accident many teenagers, especially those with a foreign origin that live in Malmö are afraid to go outdoors. Both police and Ahmed´s parents are still searching for reasons behind the murder.
